Armand Ferland Sr. is a native-born Vermonter, but now resides in Port Saint Lucie, FL. He was one of the nine children in their family. Born and raised in a rural setting of a dairy farm that taught him some sound work ethics. He worked side by side with his other siblings until he graduated from high school in 1969. He was from a poor family that was not ready for the loss of his mother in 1969. He was dating a young lady from the next town before he graduated high school, He married Dorothy Lee Hadlock on July 12, 1969, three weeks after his graduation. They had two sons named Armand Jr, and Christopher, over the next four years. They were married fifty-three years before she passed on to be with the Lord.
Armand was a believer in the Lord Jesus his entire life. He and Dorothy made a commitment to deepen their faith in August 1976. They felt the leadership of the Lord taking them to several different states over the next few years. It was a life of faith that developed a great trust in their savior. It was twelve years after they had left their native state that they returned to help sickly parents.
Armand became a successful businessman in the field of construction. He worked with crews that usually were six in numbers, but he had as many as twelve employees for a period back in Vermont.
There was a time in 1975 that he had taken a position with Cumberland farms on their home farm in Massachusetts. He caught a disease from the cattle called Brucellosis, but was called Undulant Fever in humans, from direct contact with the infected cattle. He was hospitalized on a couple of occasions, but the disease was not identified for nearly a year and then the hospital told Dorothy to get ready to bury Armand. Armand could not work for over a year as he recuperated from the illness. The four of them lived with friends most of that time until Dorothy was able to procure them a home with state assistance. All this time, their faith was tested and tried. They certainly spent a lot of time on their knees in prayer. Many would say that the Lord had failed them, but they never went without food or shelter. God is a mighty God, and he showed His hand to them on a regular basis.
One of the lasting effects of the Undulant Fever was the onset of osteoarthritis. It became debilitating by the 2000s and medicines were no longer sufficient to carry him through. The first surgery was in 2008 with the replacement of a right hip, and progressed to having both knees replaced the same day in early 2009. It would suffice to say that Armand found himself with a lot of time on his hands. He had written a book intended for younger audiences in 1994 and thought he would sit down with his computer and try it again. He produced his longest book during that recovery, that he wrote in under 30 days. THE RIDE taught him many lessons about himself and readers.
Armand knew that he wanted to present life with its challenges and to help people see remedies received from God. He has what is called the salvation message in most of his books and expands the character’s faith on the pages. He says it takes more forethought than he had imagined, but he doesn’t work from any kind of outline for his books. He allows his faith to flow out to others in his characters. He tries to have people examine their lives and make their own conclusions about following the Lord Jesus. The fate in people’s lives often has its roots in faith in our Lord. Armand wants people to know that not all things are accidents but have causation from the Lord Jesus to shape and bend our lives into blessings from His hand.
Armand has some final words for his readers. “I am not an expert in the healing of people’s lives, but I know someone that is. I offer a different outlook from the negative side of having been poor to a hope in the One that can bless us. God has the choice of being our sovereign God, and able to see what is best for us in all things. There are some basics that never change. The love of God is the first thing to keep in our hearts. The love of family is very similar in rank because it is the first thing that non-believers see in our lives, and phonies are easy to spot. I make all my characters wealthy in my books but that is not guaranteed because we love God. I want to instill a generosity and realization of true wealth without the greed for more.
I have written a series of five books based on Gideon that is a voice in my four character’s lives that only they can hear. Two of the books are not published yet and they are the ones that delve into the Christian life most deeply, but you see a progression in the books and characters from the beginning. SECRET MISSION I, leads a librarian into a crime stopping hero and the series gains momentum as a person would gain momentum in their Christian walk. I personally love the series and is best read in the order in which they were written.
My other books are family friendly works of fiction. They have a life of their own and anyone can appreciate them while reading the pages. Please enjoy them and may you find some insight toward living within them.
God Bless
